Syren De Mer’s Stage Name Began as a Nod to Greek Mythology

Born in Bellingham in 1969, she moved with her family to Yakima and grew up there, before settling in Seattle, where she gained a degree in photography at the Seattle Art Institute. In 1994 she met Andre Darque, who became her husband and introduced her to BDSM and gang bangs; through the local swinger community she gained a good reputation in the Pacific Northwest. She spent about a year modelling independently for photographers working in both adult and non-adult genres.

In 2005 she sent a portfolio of photographs to Playboy, which rejected her; those same photographs ended up in front of producer Seymore Butts, who came back with a different offer: adult film work with his agency. She performed initially under the name Syren, drawn from Greek mythology and said to represent her spontaneity and sexuality, before adding the surname De Mer in 2006.

Off Camera, She Customises Cars and Splits Her Time Between Seattle and Los Angeles

She is the mother of two and divides her time between Seattle and Los Angeles. Her tattoos include marks on her right wrist and the back of her neck, a mermaid on her right thigh, and butterflies on her lower back and left calf; she also has piercings in her navel and right nostril, the latter not visible in every scene she has shot.
